Chevrolet Caprice 9C1

"Junkyard Journal"

A newly arrived Indiana State Police 1992 Caprice 9C1.
This is a 1992 Caprice 9C1 Indiana Sheriff car that was obviously used for target practice.  Its hard to tell what was wrong with this car, but it must have been bad enough to take it out of service and shoot it up.  We found lots of .40 caliber brass all throughout this car, and just about every part of the body was literally shot to shit.  At least you can get an idea of what Indiana Sheriff decals looked like on a '91-'96 9C1, as the decals on this one were left in place.
This 1986 Caprice wagon was an interesting find.  While this is not a 1A2, it does have a spotlight and a cage installed.  According to the documentation we found in the glove box, it was owned by the State of Indiana, and originally purchased for usage by the State Board of Health.  It seems as though it may have had a career change later in life.

An Indiana Sheriff 9C1 buried under some import trash.
Not sure where this one came from.  As I recall, it had the low band antenna hole on the left quarterpanel that a state car would have had, but it has decal residue on the trunk lid that says "DIAL 911", which ISP has never had on their cars.  It might be a state car that was resold to a local department.  I think this was a 1992 model.
Looks like we found Trooper M. D. Talbert's old car.  Indiana State Police 1992 Caprice 9C1.

This is another interesting find.  This 1989 Caprice 9C1 had an obviously aftermarket half vinyl roof installed, presumably after it was out of service.  It looks like crap and ruined the car.
You don't find too many of these!  This is a genuine 1986 Chevrolet Caprice 9C6.  9C6 is (or was) the GM RPO code for Taxi.  Most taxi companies buy up used police cars, give them shitty cheap yellow or orange Maaco repaints, and put them into taxi service.  This one was a taxi from the very beginning.  It is taxi orange through and through, and shows 9C6 on the SPID tag to prove it!
See?  Factory orange on the inside of the trunk lid, and you can see 9C6 on the SPID tag.
1986 was the only year for a flush-mounted Caprice crest on the header panel, and the '87-'90 style grille with the '77-'85 style quad sealed beam headlights.

Most of the at-rest Indiana State Police 9C1s were in this little section of the lot.  The blue 1991 9C1 at the far left was a parts donor for my car.

This is the back of the Indiana State Police 1991 9C1 pictured above.  The "STATE POLICE" decal residue is still barely visible on the trunk lid.

A 1990 Caprice 9C1 Indiana State Police unit.  I couldn't understand why this car was in the junkyard.  Other than the fact that the header panel was gone, the body was in excellent condition.  Most of the interior had been stripped and the windshield was gone, but this car had a better body than the 1990 9C1 I used to own.  The old Indiana State Police decal residue is still visible on the side.
The passenger door from the above Indiana State Police 1990 Caprice 9C1.  The old ISP sheild decal residue is still visible on this near perfect door.
The old "Texas" sticker (built in Texas by Texans) that the Arlington assembly plant put on the windows of Caprices until 1991.  This was on the ISP 1990 9C1.  As a side note, after 1990, these were placed in the driver's door jamb area, on the inside surface of the door near the latch mechanism.

This is a rare find: a 1990 Caprice 9C1 Indiana sheriff's car.  There was no way to tell what county this car served in.  It was obviously the victim of a front end collision.  Based on the VIN, I could tell that it used to have the L03 305-cid TBI engine under the hood.
This 1990 9C1 still has the older Indiana sheriff decals on the doors.  These were used until about 1992.
This car was loaded.  It had retail seats, power everything, and the Extended Range Sound system.
This is a 1993 Caprice 9C1 Indiana sheriff unit that was involved in a severe accident. The passenger compartment looked to be intact, although the car was decimated.

After thousands of miles of service, this is the end of the line.  It is unfortunate, however true.  If you own a B-body 9C1, don't let it end up like these.  They are in finite supply.
